Russian is a great language to learn. It's one of the Slavic languages, specifically the eastern slavic sub-group, together with Ukrainian and Belorussian.  Russian is spoken by about 170 million people as a first language and another 100 million as a second language. Russian is considered one of the chief languages of the world. It is one of the four official languages of the United Nations, and it is used in many scientific writings and literary works.

Russian is spoken in 30 countries other than Russia. This is due to the Russian immigrants that emigrated to these countries such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, and Moldova.
